Yankee Love
Shannon will be married at the end of the month and she originally came across my work after admiring the calligraphy I had done for F & M’s wedding a year ago. I’m glad Shannon contacted me when it was her turn to tie the knot.
Instead of Table #’s, Shannon and her fiance decided to use Yankee players as their Table names as her fiance’s career is in sports and he’s a huge Yankee Fan. Their menus also doubled as place cards… an idea that I love!

Spring is in the air
… or should I say summer? We’ve had a gorgeous week in Toronto with summer like weather. There’s always something about a unseasonal warm Spring day that leaves everyone so cheerful. These seating cards that I recently penned for a Toronto bride also brought a smile to my face. The bright and cheery color combo is perfect for a Spring wedding, and I love the added touch the pretty floral graphic brings. Calligraphy in the Olivia style.
Calligraphy isn’t just for addressing envelopes
It is becoming increasing popular to incorporate Calligraphy into the design of the invitation. This past winter I had the pleasure of creating the lettering for a Mississippi bride’s invitation. I penned the master artwork for the invitation, reply card and return address in the Claire style. The artwork was then scanned and sent as a high res digital file. The file can be taken directly to a printer or to an invitation designer. And I must say that having a simple hand written invitation letterpress printed looks quite amazing.
I also finished off the bride’s invitation suite by addressing her envelopes. Here is the feedback her mother sent me:
I just wanted you to know Laci picked up our envelopes yesterday. She was so very impressed with them, even the packaging. She said that you had done a beautiful job. Laci is 24 and very mature and knows quality work when she see it.

Congratulations… from the President
The first time I addressed an invitation to the President of the United States, I did what I always do when seeing someone famous on a client’s guest list… I stop everything and go and show Mr. K. The 2nd and 3rd time I addressed an invitation to the President, Mr. K didn’t seem all that amused and it suddenly dawned on me that this is no coincidence - my clients can’t be expecting the President to show up at their wedding.
So I did some research on what exactly was Room 39 at the Greetings Office in The White House, and I must start off by apologizing to my American friends for my ignorance. It’s actually quite common to address an invitation to the president. Just don’t expect the President and first lady to make a guest appearance at your wedding. What you’ll get in return is a congratulations card from the President, which makes for a lovely keepsake.
Shown here is the envelope of a New York City couple, addressed to President Obama in our newest style, Penelope. I love the toad motif that is letterpress printed onto these Crane Lettra envelopes.

Over the Holidays I ‘calligraphed’ N & P’s seating cards for their beautiful winter wedding. N & P had their seating cards letterpress printed and they were displayed on a bed of white carnations. Here are E & F’s wedding invitations & envelopes. In Mexico, it is common to hand deliver wedding invitations in clear envelopes, so we put the Spanish guest names directly onto the invitations.
